Michael Morgenstern

Hi, I'm Michael Morgenstern, a Neurology Resident with an interest in sleep medicine, neurology, public health and research to use technology to improve health care.

Hi, This page is about Michael Morgenstern, a doctor from New York and below he has shared some information related to his work experience and ongoing research. Research Projects  Dr. Michael Morgenstern developed the Sleep disorder and Narcolepsy Online Reference for Evaluation (SNORE), an artificially intelligent expert system that recognizes sleep symptoms that require further evaluation by polysomnography, a neurologist or a sleep medicine professional. He is currently conducting research with the director of the sleep disorders center at North Shore LIJ Hospital, Dr. Harly Greenberg, and conducting retrospective chart reviews to evaluate the utility of SNORE in clinical practice by using the software to analyze patient data with known sleep disorders. Additionally, Dr. Michael Morgenstern devised a a modified version of the Frontal Lobe Epilepsy and Parosomnia scale. Dr. Michael Morgenstern plans to investigate this scale with Dr. Greenberg to identify if an abbreviated survey, with the addition of family and seizure history, could increase the sensitivity and specificity of predicting which patients will have parasomnias or frontal lobe epilepsy.    Dr. Michael Morgenstern created the Online Utility for the Characterization of Headaches (OUCH) an automated, computerized diagnostic questionnaire that provides a differential diagnosis for the most prevalent headache types, while recognizing symptoms that might require acute care. OUCH provides survey takers with the most likely headache diagnosis, a differential diagnosis and provides recommendations to seek urgent or emergency care for critical symptoms. He is performing a retrospective analysis of survey data with the director of the headache center at NSLIJ, Dr. Noah Rosen, to investigate if OUCH can identify sensitive and specific predictors, associated features, and successful treatments of different types of headaches including migraine, tension and cluster headaches.    Dr. Michael Morgenstern has investigated the management of acute stroke. He composed a review article titled: "Code Stroke: Improving Triage & Outcomes in Stroke and TIA" (pending submission) which details a process of managing the evaluation, disposition and interventions of patients with stroke or TIA.    Dr. Michael Morgenstern founded the Neurology Artificial Intelligence Research Group to improve clinical decision making and patient outcomes. The group is comprised of Dr. Michael Morgenstern and several volunteer research assistants who have helped him initiate and conduct research at North Shore LIJ Hospital. The research group is focused on the research, development and application of expert systems and technology to aid in the management of disease. Most recently, they have been focused on sleep disorders research.  Medwiser is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate, enable and empower individuals worldwide to prevent the spread of HIV. Dr. Michael Morgenstern recruited hundreds of volunteers from across the world to promote HIV awareness and prevent disease. Dr. Michael Morgenstern built online media and tools to prevent the spread of HIV. Additionally, he conducted an extensive analysis of HIV and STD testing guidelines. Working with volunteers, Dr. Michael Morgenstern derived testing guidelines, a screening algorithm and developed software capable of translating the algorithm to a survey that can provide recommendations to patients.    Silvergate Evaluations is business-to-business credential evaluation service that has helped thousands of immigrants by providing evaluations of their foreign educational and work-experience credentials. Dr. Michael Morgenstern started Silvergate at the turn of the century, prior to enrolling in Medical School. Silvergate to date has helped thousands of immigrants and worked with over 1000 representing law firms nationwide with operations that have expanded to include a translation service.
